American Idols Live Tour 2008 Review

Two hours ago I left the Jobing.com arena in Glendale, Arizona where I had just witnessed the inaugural date of the American Idol tour (presented by Pop Tarts). A good show all in all.

I didn't really know what to expect. The crowd was extremely diverse, ages 4 to 80 years old. Each singer from the top 10 finalists sang 3 songs, (many were repeats from the show), but this time, every bug was worked out! Chikezie opened up the show , then they counted down contestants from there.... Ramiele, Michael, Kristi Lee, Carly, Brooke - a 'group' Idol Gives Back song & a brief Intermission - then on to Jason, Syesha, David Archuleta (4 songs), and David Cook (who was allowed 5 songs). Then they performed one final group song after Cook's encore.

I honestly wanted to punch the Pop Tart promoter for the "Rah-Rah" promo hype before the show, but he quit before it ran on too long... he had an mascot sidekick in a fuzzy pastry suit that had to run around and do his bidding... Ugh! There was also a Guitar Hero contest at the end of the intermission - yawn.

David Cook really had his act down like a polished rock god, complete with pick tossing & guard-rail climbing. Ramiele was probably the weakest part of the show if I had to pick one... (Even though she was the cutest one up there, she's hasn't learned to move around the stage or smile yet). The real standouts were Cook, Syesha (watch yer back Beyonce!) and Carly! PURE PERFECTION! David Archuleta probably got the most unsolicited screams, but had an obscure songlist. I think the most improved was Kristi Lee Cook. She worked what her mamma gave her and easily became the favorite of all the guys in the crowd... She'll be huge on the Country Charts!

I give the concert a 7 out of 10 - A good show for the whole family (with a great Foo Fighters tribute as frosting on the cake).

I bought a $25 program at the show and put together a quick wallpaper with images from the cover. It's posted directly below. Enjoy!
