Artist: Paul Howalt
Statement: I'm originally from Minneapolis, so Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson is kind of a 'home-town hero' for many of us. He's mysteriously creepy, proud, tiny, and plays guitar like no one I know. He has had so many hairstyles and facial hair configurations, I don't know which to draw. This look was 'Diamonds & Pearls' Era. Originally I had him sitting on a toadstool, but it seemed like too much detail in the end. I think the real trick here was getting the eyes just right. I was going to put him in the actors category too, but I've seen "Graffiti Bridge." The background pattern I originally developed for Von Glitschka's new book, but he had done one that was similar, so it was left out... It was inspired by my ironing board cover. OK - Remember to leave comments...
