Caricature: Alanis Morissette

ARTIST: Paul Howalt
STATEMENT: Alanis has always intrigued me. I love her open mind and willingness to explore ideas and debunk them if they aren't worth her time. I think I enjoy her focus on spiritual issues the most. and hey, she can craft a very hooky and listenable song! She is a artist living in Truth and she takes us along for the journey. As far as rendering a caricature of her, I wanted to capture her raw look that never seems to be over done with make up and 'hair-time'.

Caricature: Prince

Artist: Paul Howalt
Statement: I'm originally from Minneapolis, so Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson is kind of a 'home-town hero' for many of us. He's mysteriously creepy, proud, tiny, and plays guitar like no one I know. He has had so many hairstyles and facial hair configurations, I don't know which to draw. This look was 'Diamonds & Pearls' Era. Originally I had him sitting on a toadstool, but it seemed like too much detail in the end. I think the real trick here was getting the eyes just right. I was going to put him in the actors category too, but I've seen "Graffiti Bridge." The background pattern I originally developed for Von Glitschka's new book, but he had done one that was similar, so it was left out... It was inspired by my ironing board cover. OK - Remember to leave comments...

Jennifer Garner

MOVIES: Juno, The Kingdom, Catch And Release, Alias, Elektra, 13 Going On 30, Daredevil, Pearl Harbor, Dude Where's my Car?

Caricature: Pee Wee Herman

ARTIST: Paul Howalt
STATEMENT: OK - I admit, I know 3/4 the dialogue in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" and watch it whenever I need a good laugh. Paul Reubens just BEGS to have his caricature rendered! Although, I think half the magic of the Pee Wee film is Danny Elfman's "Breakfast Machine" intro tune. Oh, and I thought he made a great vampire in the "Buffy" movie. Yep, Mr. Reubens is like a big cable knit sweater that you keep knitting... and knitting... and knitting... and knitting.

Drew Pocza

"Living in the dream" in the Seattle area, well, Redmond actually, but VERY close to Seattle. By day Drew is an AD for a nerdy gaming company making D&D compatible products. But by night and often weekends, is an illustrating gun for hire.
Aside form drawing, Drew likes training in martial arts, movies, comics, KFC and is an avid tattoo collector. Hard to believe a guy who draws such cute things looks like a thug!

Sherwin Schwartzrock

Sherwin knew at a young age that he would be working in the art field. At age 13 he and his brother created a weekly comic strip which ran in a dozen small town newspapers. After high school, Sherwin continued his education at MSU-Moorhead while simultaneously working at an advertising agency in Fargo, ND. Prior to graduation, he took an internship at Design Center in Minneapolis... and stayed on for nearly a decade. In 2001 Sherwin started his own freelance business offering graphic design and illustration services. He now runs his own logo boutique, Schwartzrock Graphic Arts, outside of Minneapolis.

Caricature: Will Smith

Artist: Paul Howalt
Statement: OK - I'm back from a week of family vacation, sickness and Comic Con Madness. I've decided to submit a graphic caricature rendering of Will Smith for public critique. He has always been one of my favorite celebrities, both acting and rapping. I enjoy anyone that doesn't take themselves so seriously. Leave any comments below.
